Happy New Year!
We hope everyone had a healthy and safe New Year's. Many are creating their New Year's Resolutions this week, and we hope that you're creating one that will make you healthier and happier! If you haven't decided on a Resolution Yet, we've provided an article that is suitable for almost anyone: Munch on More Magnesium. Magnesium assists in maintaining bone health, heart rate, blood clotting, protein formation and producing insulin. It also helps to relax muscles, and can help treat migraines. This month, we are also wishing good luck to our intern Camille Lider, as well as Happy Birthday to Ashley Smith and Sherry Olsen!
Lastly, the Seattle Dizziness Support Group Meeting will be held in our clinic this Saturday, January 7th from 12-2pm. If you haven't been to one yet, this would be a great time to try something new. Of course, if you have been putting off getting seen for any chronic pain or symptoms of dizziness, resolve to "See your physical therapist"! The faster you start meeting your deductible, the longer amount of time you'll have to use your insurance benefits throughout the year. Best wishes in health, Pacific Balance and Rehabilitation Clinic |

Good Luck Camille!
| |
Camille Lider has been a student Physical Therapist at our clinic, from the University of Colorado's Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. She has been working with Christopher Morrow, Karin Townson, and Ashley Smith, concluding her 16 week internship on Friday, January 13th. She has been a wonderful addition to our clinic and will be very missed when she returns to Colorado. Thank you, Camille, and good luck! We wanted to also give a big shout out to Ashley Smith, whose birthday was Wednesday,January 4th!

Our PT Sherry Olsen's birthday is coming up soon on
Sunday, January 15th. Happy Birthday to her!

New Year's Resolution:
Munch on More Magnesium
While it's easier to take a few pills every day to help increase your magnesium intake, it is a lot healthier to get magnesium through your diet since foods usually contain a series of vitamins that work synergistically, meaning that they work together to help your body assimilate nutrients into your system.

Artichokes Don't be afraid of the little splinters on these guys. Steam them up for about 45 minutes until soft, and enjoy a cup full to intake 101 mg of Magnesium!
Almonds/Almond Butter Move aside peanut butter! The spotlight is on the nutrient rich almond butter, which can be freshly made at QFC or Whole Foods. 2 oz of this spread comes chock full of Magnesium- 169 mg to be exact. Spread on crackers, a sandwich, or use as a dip for carrots or celery. Like to snack on almonds whole? About 52 almonds earn you the same amount of magnesium, so snack away!
Black Beans
The most nutrient-rich bean! One cup of cooked black beans provide 120 mg of Magnesium, 15 grams of protein, 60% of your daily dietary fiber and folate.
 Spinach
A true Superfood, one cup of cooked Spinach packs 157 mg of Magnesium and is also very high in Calcium, Dietary fiber and Iron. No wonder Popeye couldn't get enough!
Pumpkin Seeds Even pass Thanksgiving, Pumpkin seeds are available year round- check the bulk bins at Metropolitan Market, Whole Foods or QFC. Only 2 Tablespoons of Roasted Pumpkin Seeds provide 151 mg of Magnesium!

Next Seattle Dizziness and Balance Support Group Meeting:
Saturday,January 7, 2011 12:00-2:00pm
at Pacific Balance
| | |
About:
Seattle Dizzy Group meets the first Saturday of each month at Pacific Balance. If the first weekend of the month is a holiday, we meet the second Saturday of that month. Meetings are from noon-2 pm. No need to RSVP and all are welcome.
Mission:
The Seattle Dizziness & Balance Disorders Support Group recognizes the challenges of living with balance dysfunction and provides an opportunity for those coping with inner ear illness to share their stories, find understanding and support, and increase awareness of vestibular disorders through group discussion, informative sessions, and access to helpful resources.Monthly support group meetings are intended for those personally affected by dizziness and balance impairment (and concerned loved ones) so that they might connect and be encouraged in the realization and affirmation that they are not alone in their struggle with vestibular illness.
